CL&P Then and Now

The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) has been around for over 100 years and the government has kept them the only electricity provider allowed to operate during that time. CL&P provided safe and reliable electric service to homes, neighborhoods and businesses in Connecticut but you can now get this same reliable electric service from multiple other cheaper electricity companies. CL&P has around 1.2 million customers in 149 cities and towns in CT and over 260,000 of CL&P’s and UI’s customers have switched over to a cheaper electricity provider in CT. At this time the only way to receive a no deposit electricity choice with CL&P is by working with the Department of Social Services of CT.

What Happens When There Is A Power Outage

CL&P has traditionally served the Northeast Utilities area of CT and will continue to service the poles and wires in this area of Connecticut although you have a choice in who you pick for your electricity price in CT. If you have a power outage even if you pick a competitive electricity company you will still see the power outage phone number to CL&P on your electric bill. When you have an outage simply call the outage number on your bill. Nothing changes from switching electricity companies and CL&P will come to repaid a downed transformer or line as quickly as they have in the past when they were your monopoly energy provider in Connecticut.

CL&P Power Outage Phone Number

If you experience an outage, call CL&P anytime at 1-800-286-2000 (947-2000 in Hartford/Meriden).
